NameCheap Really Is Less Expensive than GoDaddy
It seems that everyone is selling domain names now! But where can you get the best price? Well, the first thing that you should be aware of is that web host sites may not actually be the original domain name registrar.
For instance, I host my pages at Ipage. It was only just recently that they began to offer to register and transfer my domains to them. Many web host companies are simply resellers of names.
Transferring A Domain
I have always used GoDaddy. They are the world leader in domain names registration. However, they are not the cheapest.
In order to change your registrar do you need a release code from the existing one? But once you have that code it is easy to transfer domains.
When you transfer a domain to NameCheap, you do not lose any time left on that domain. The transfer fee includes one year of registration added on to the existing time that you have left. So you don’t lose anything and in fact, you DO save money.
If your registrar and your web host are different, then there is actually no downtime in transferring a name. The existing DNS name server goes along with the transfer.
Registering A New Domain
Don’t be fooled by promotions that offer a 99 cent domain name. What you really need to look at is the renewal rate. Assuming you want to keep the name, you’re going to be paying a lot more in the end if you fall for those promotional traps.
A Dot Com Is Still The Gold Standard
There are now more than 400 domain name extensions. But the original .com extension is still the most valuable in terms of recognition, perceived reputation, and resale value.
In terms of search engine optimization (SEO), dot coms are supposedly much better.
A.com domain name is also less expensive than most of the other extensions out there. You might be able to get your desired domain name but with the extension that you want.
- IO Names – The .IO extension is popularly used for the internet and other virtual-related businesses. It is quite common for bitcoin and bitcoins casinos. The actual “country” designation is for the British Indian Ocean.
- AI – The .AI extension signifies an artificial intelligence-related website.
- CO – The .CO extension is meant for global businesses. But it is also used for marketing to typos and misspellings
